Issues
ABU DHABI is an Islamic state and request that all
visitors uphold the cultures and customs of the UAE, however the UAE authorities
are generally relaxed, and UAE Nationals are as tolerant of other cultures as
they would expect vistors to be of theirs..
However, a few key differences in law that should be noted if you are
considering working in ABU DHABI:
Alcohol – Can be bought legally in UAE,
with a licence. It is an offence to drink in a public place, other than in
licenced places such as bars and resturants.
Pork–
Pork is legal in UAE, although is available in limited stores.
In stores that sell pork products, they are separated in Pork Rooms.
Drugs-
Is STRICTLY illegal in UAE.
Indecent Acts or gestures – It is
considered extremely offensive to perform lude acts or gestures in Public, or
directed at an individual.
Dangerous Driving – Whilst driving
in UAE, strict driving laws and expensive fines are exercised.
Shoplifting
– Carries harsh punishment – including prison.
Ramadan
- During the Holy Month of Ramadan, It is illegal to eat or drink in a
public place between Day Break and Sun Set.
In Abu Dhabi, No Alcohol is served or Live Music Played for the Month of
Ramadan.
